QWhy did you decide to join Shibata Kako Sekkei?
I found out about it through a senior of mine at university and attended an information session.
During my university days, I was a STEM major who was good at mathematics, and I didn't have much of an interest in piping design.
Nevertheless, my interest was piqued by what I heard, and I was convinced to try it out, so I attended an interview with the company.
For me, the deciding factor that spurred me to join the company was the fact that it isn't too big.
It would be misleading to say that everyone gets along well with everybody else, but I felt an atmosphere that was akin to working at home, so I wanted to work here.
QWhat are your current responsibilities?
Broadly speaking, I am involved in detailed piping design.
Compared to basic design, which determines the general arrangement, this is the final stage where drawings lead directly to the real thing. In other words, this is design work that makes things viable.
I always go on site inspections, so it is very rewarding whenever I see that the designs I created previously are there as a reality.
Of course, some design tasks are just checks that do not lead directly to real implementation, and that implementation happens through various design processes, but I still clearly remember what I was involved working on even a year later.

QWhat kind of company is Shibata Kako Sekkei?
I think it is a tough company.
The will to accommodate to our customers' requests, sometimes until late at night, runs through the entire company.
There is a high level of awareness when it comes to handling customers' requests as a team.
We don't just think about ourselves as individuals.
I think this is a company that shows its strength whenever we need to do our best together.
Our customers also sense this, and they often tell us that we are doing a great job for them.
The trusting relationships we have built up because of this leads to a virtuous cycle in which our customers call on us every time.
QHave there been any changes in the way you do your job or think about your job?
When I was on dispatch to one of our customers, I only thought about improving my own technical skills.
I wasn't aware of this at the time, because I was doing more checking tasks than hands-on work,
but when I returned to the company 2-3 years ago and started doing actual work as part of a team again, I realized that it was really time-consuming and involved working on even the smallest details.
I'm keenly aware of the difficulty of supporting people at the margins of the organization and the importance of perspective.
QHow do you spend your time after work or on days off?
I enjoy drinking in moderation.
I mainly drink in the evenings at home, and I go out drinking about once a week.
I leave my family to take care of everything around the home on weekdays, so I spend my weekends with them.
I used to be in a soccer club, so I have been teaching children to play soccer at the park recently.
Sometimes I find myself in the same state of mind as at work, and refuse to go home before the kids can do a certain thing.

MESSAGE A message to students

Looking back on it now, I often wish I had done more during my student days.
I think that the student years are a short and very valuable time in your life.
Once you enter the workforce, you'll spend a lot of time at work, so try looking for more things that make the job rewarding in deciding where to work.
You'll never run out of things to do, but make sure to spend your precious time meaningfully in your own way.
